Why this smartphone is built for you

The Alcatel 2005

The Alcatel 2005 is a basic phone aimed primarily at the pre-teen market as an affordable means by which to use social messaging applications.

This phone has a 2.4 inch screen that displays in 167PPI (Pixels Per Inch). The average PPI for a modern smartphone is 255.

The 2005 has a 2MP camera and can record video in up to QVGA (320x240). It does not have a front facing camera.

Performance is provided by a 0.26 GHz single core processor and 0.1GB RAM. Based upon its processor speed and memory, this phone receives an unmudlr performance rating of 8 out of 100.

Battery Life

The 2005 has an estimated battery life of around 14 hours. The average smartphone battery life is around 10 hours. It has a battery capacity of 850mAh (MilliAmp hours). The average battery capacity is 1950mAh. This phone has a removable battery.

1GB (Gigabyte) is equal to roughly 500 pictures or 250 songs. The 2005 comes with 0.064GB internal storage and an expandable memory card slot which makes it possible for you to add a further 8GB external storage.

The 2005 has Bluetooth which enables it to communicate with other Bluetooth devices (such as a Bluetooth handsfree kit). This phone does not have 3G or Wi-Fi, unlike many of its competitors.

The 2005 has an FM radio and a basic MP3 player. It is able to integrate with social media via the built in Facebook and Twitter Apps, however you will need to purchase an additional memory card in order to do so.

Dual SIM

This phone comes in a dual SIM version (called the Alcatel 2005D) that enables you to pop in two SIM cards at once and choose the one you want to use. This comes in handy if you are planning to use your phone abroad extensively or want to keep your business and personal calls separate.

At around £25, the Alcatel 2005 is a cost effective way to access social messaging applications and comes with many useful features. Its usefulness as a social media device is, however, somewhat compromised by its lack of 3G and Wi-Fi, but there is much to be said for a phone that enables you to Tweet and update your status for less than the cost of one month on your average contract. It would make a good 'second' phone for holidays, festivals or younger family members.
