The Alba Flip phone is specifically designed to be simple and easy to operate. It is aimed at the senior age group and has a special 'SOS button' which can be pressed to make an emergency call. The main advantage of the flip (clamshell) design is that it makes it much more difficult to 'pocket dial' one of your contacts when compared to a standard phone setup.
Alba was registered as a trademark in 1918 by A.J. Balcombe Ltd. It started out life as a radio manufacturer and has subsequently expanded into other consumer electronics. Alba group bought the Bush brand in 1988, followed by Goodmans in 1994. In 2008, the Alba and Bush names were purchased by Home Retail Group, the parent company of Homebase and Argos. In September 2016, Sainsbury's bought the Home Retail Group, bringing the Argos, Alba and Bush brands, under its ownership.
